Client Desires and Needs
Carlota and Alejandro, the clients of The Magic Wall Reform by Impepinable Studio, desired a vibrant and cheerful apartment. Their new space, initially fragmented and dull, needed a transformation to reflect their personalities and lifestyles. With Carlota’s fashion collection and Alejandro’s affinity for books and vinyl, along with their desire for separate bathrooms and a shared work area, the challenge was clear.
Design Approach: Transforming a Dull Space
Reimagining Geometry and Layout
Faced with the typical layout of a corridor flat in central Madrid, the architects leveraged the existing geometry to define two distinct areas within the apartment. One area faced the street, while the other opened onto small courtyards. This layout formed the basis for the design intervention.
The Magical Wall: A Unifying Element
Innovative Solution
To address the clients’ diverse needs and desires, Impepinable Studio conceived the idea of a “magical wall.” This single element serves multiple functions: storage for clothes, books, and appliances; concealing a toilet cabin; providing a large sink and cooking facilities; and even offering a spot for a relaxing glass of wine. Furthermore, it acts as a spatial organizer, defining and distributing different areas within the apartment.
Infusing Color and Light: Creating Vibrancy
Colorful Accents
To inject vibrancy into the space, the designers introduced splashes of color, particularly green, complemented by yellow accents in the form of new windows, existing radiators, and bathroom tiles. The interplay of light and shadow, achieved through the opacity of the wall’s material and the transparency of lacquered aluminum, adds visual interest to the interior.
Multi-functional Spaces: Versatility and Efficiency
Elevated Sleeping Areas and Storage
Elevated sleeping areas, clad in serene blue hues, provide a tranquil and private retreat within the apartment. These platforms serve a dual purpose, offering additional storage space underneath. The private area’s permeability is adjustable, thanks to a large silver curtain that can be drawn to create privacy as needed.

The Result
Carlota and Alejandro now enjoy a transformed living experience in their compact apartment. The space caters to their various needs, from entertaining friends in the spacious living area to working in a bright and inviting workspace. With a galactic sleeping space and an expansive dressing room, the apartment maximizes functionality without compromising on style or comfort.
