Originally envisioned as a cannabis lounge, Stella’s Cucina Restaurant is nestled in the heart of a new commercial building in Boulder’s Historic District. Concealed from the exterior, the space draws inspiration from the underground Speakeasy scene of the American Prohibition era, evoking an aura of old-fashioned elegance and mystery.
A Journey Through Concealment
Upon entering Stella’s, guests are enveloped in an entirely new hospitality experience. A towering 12 feet aluminum door, marked only by an “S,” leads visitors into a compressed space with a curved white ceiling. The journey continues through a dark corridor, guided by wood walls, until guests arrive at the squared dining room illuminated by a massive skylight.
Designing for Intimacy and Comfort
In the dining room, a 45-degree rotated bar with curved corners welcomes guests, while curved fixed seating along the perimeter creates an intimate and inviting ambiance. Equidistant columns separate the main space from the vaulted dining areas in the back, offering a more private dining experience. The elegant navy-blue background, complemented by sleek gold accents, sets the tone for a warm and sophisticated atmosphere.
Merging Tradition with Contemporary Cuisine
Stella’s seamlessly blends the Speakeasy concept with contemporary Italian cuisine, offering a menu inspired by Art Deco influences. The central skylight bathes the bar in natural light throughout the day, transitioning into a dynamic setting as evening falls, with the DJ stage taking center stage during Italo disco nights.
