Martha Stewart’s Unconventional Home Decor Stance

Martha Stewart’s influence on home-related matters is undeniable, spanning various domains like cleaning, cooking, crafting, and decorating. Renowned for her support of small-batch goods and local artisans, it’s no surprise that Etsy, a platform celebrating handmade items, has appointed her as its inaugural “Collections Curator.”

In this newly announced role, Stewart handpicks her favorite products from Etsy sellers worldwide, updating her selections each season. Her current spring collection features over 100 items ranging from home decor and hosting essentials to gifts, personal accessories, and wedding items. While perusing Stewart’s curated picks, you’ll notice one glaring omission: curtains.

During a roundtable Zoom interview with Etsy to introduce her role as Collections Curator, Stewart revealed her unconventional stance on curtains. Despite her openness to various home decor trends, she admitted to never being a fan of voluminous drapery and has never adorned her windows with fabric curtains in any of her homes. Instead, she opts for translucent shades, allowing her to enjoy the view outdoors while maintaining privacy indoors.

Stewart’s aversion to curtains doesn’t stem from a dislike of fabric; rather, she prefers to incorporate it elsewhere in her decor, such as through pillows, table linens, or upholstered furniture. However, she acknowledges that window treatments are a personal choice, citing her daughter Alexis, who extensively uses curtains in her own home to soften the glass elements.

Ultimately, Stewart’s perspective underscores the diversity of preferences in home decor. While curtains may be a staple for many, she proves that there are alternative ways to achieve both style and functionality in window treatments, emphasizing the importance of personal taste and individual expression in decorating decisions.
